I live in a 200-year-old Kominka (traditional farmhouse) nestled near the powder havens of Togari and Nozawa Onsen Ski Resorts. As a passionate skier and a local resident, I cherish every moment of life in this “Yukiguni” (Snow Country). However, finding this sanctuary was no simple feat. It was a 10-year journey—a personal mission where I scouted over 100 heritage properties to find the one.
From foundational elements like structural integrity and termite resilience to critical details like snow management, securing panoramic views, and navigating land rights—I have experienced firsthand just how difficult it is to find a place that ticks every single box.

Beyond the world-class slopes lies a landscape steeped in history and a community that has lived in harmony with the snow for centuries. To honor this heritage, I took years to renovate my own home, treating it as a living laboratory.
